In the previous post, I mentioned how we can take some time out of our days that most of us are spending at home to work on a side gig. To recap, I talked about how, if you feel so inclined, to now take the time you would have spend commuting to and from work (30 minutes – 3 hours) and create something.
For example, start a blog to write about your hobby or passion. If you aren’t a writer, though, maybe you might want to start a video journal instead.
I always refer to gardening as an example. You write some articles, shoot some videos, etc. and create a blog. The same steps can be used if you are say, a musician.
Now, after you have created some content, you may as well work towards earning some money from your efforts.
This is where affiliate marketing comes in. You monetize your blog by becoming an affiliate of relevant and specific affiliate programs.
One of the most common affiliate programs available to people is offered by Amazon. Amazon’s affiliate program is pretty easy and simple to use.
Simply put, you become an affiliate and then link to specific products that you either mention, or review. I definitely suggest you go this route! I generaly don’t offer a product or service unless I am familiar with it.
Take, for example, my review of my favorite autoresponder, AWeber. I mention that one as my favorite, because, not only am I an affiliate of theirs, but a customer as well. This is an example of what’s called “social proof”.
Another way to monetize your blog, you can use Google’s AdSense service as well. Here, instead of you linking out to your offers, you allow Google to place ads within your content. People click on the links and you get paid. Mind you, this monetization platform is not nearly as profitable as it once ways in its hay day, but it still works.
Maybe blogging isn’t for you. How about spending your previous commute time to write a journal, etc.? Instead of a blog, after a week or so you have the makings of a… book! It doesn’t have to be very big, at least forty pages would be a good start. Make sure it’s in pdf form so that you can add affiliate links. Having it in pdf form is also an easy way to share it, because you won’t need to bother with physically shipping it. Just email it!
Yes, email it to the list that you will be building, like I am doing here with this blog. Set up your autoresponder – being mindful of the rules & regulations and off you go!
In the next post, I will share with you a list of some very popular affiliate programs.
See you there!
